Former youth coach reveals Manchester United new defender Leny Yoro qualities that make him a great player beyond his years

Yoro only joined United this summer after breaking through at Lille in France and made his debut in a 2-0 friendly win over Rangers and is available to face Arsenal on Sunday morning.

Former youth coach Olivier Squarock has spoken about how his protégé was so talented from a young age that he quickly had to move up a generation before making his senior debut for Lille at the age of 16.

“When Lanie was in the U16s, I told the U19s coach that he should play in the U19s, but they didn’t have a place for him,” Squarock told The Ufabet.

“But then he played for the U19s and he never came back to play for me again. He was the best on the pitch.”

“When he was younger, Leny didn’t have as much ยูฟ่าเบท speed and he developed the ability to read the game both defensively and offensively. That’s his best quality. He’s a very intelligent player.”

“He has the intelligence of a defender. He loves to defend, he loves to intercept, he loves to win headers. It’s not often that you have both these qualities, the technical ability and the intelligence of a defender.”

As with any young player, there are elements to Yoro’s game that need to be improved. One facet that will need to see improvement in the Premier League is his ball progression. With Erik ten Hag‘s side heavily reliant on the ball-playing ability of the centre-backs. Although a competent passer, the Frenchman’s distribution tends to be conservative and risk-free. Something that will no doubt be worked on as the season progresses.
